Healthy Pregnancy
Now that you are pregnant, it is certainly time to take care of yourself, this has never been more important an issue than now and to ensure a healthy pregnancy. Of course, you'll probably get advice from everyone under the sun such as your doctor, family members, friends, work colleagues (and even complete strangers sometimes) on what you should and shouldn't be doing to have a healthy pregnancy.
To make things easier, we have compiled the essential list of things you need to do to have a super healthy pregnancy:
Healthy pregnancy - Prenatal health care
An important part of protecting the health of your unborn child and to give yourself a healthy pregnancy is to have regular prenatal checkups. If you think you're pregnant, call your doctor to arrange an appointment. You should aim to have your first prenatal examination during the first 6 to 8 weeks of your pregnancy and no later, as this is when your menstrual period is 2 to 4 weeks late and is also the correct time to have this test done.
Throughout your entire pregnancy, your prenatal care provider will check all the various aspects of your health, including your weight, blood pressure and the growth and development of your unborn baby - as your baby's development depends strongly on a healthy pregnancy.
Healthy pregnancy - Nutrition & Supplements
Healthy eating is an important aspect to life in general, but it becomes particularly important when you are ensuring that you have a healthy pregnancy. It's also important to make sure that your calories come from nutritious foods so that they can contribute to your baby's healthy and steady development.
Trying to maintain a well-balanced diet that incorporates everything you need for you and your baby for a healthy pregnancy sounds like a difficult task, but is actually quite easy. Just stick to eating the following:
lean meats
fruits
vegetables
whole-grain breads
low-fat dairy product
By eating more healthily with the foods mentioned aboce, you will be having a much more balanced diet and so as a result you are more likely to get all the nutrients you need for both you and your baby and as a result, will have a much more healthy pregnancy. Of course, during pregnancy, you will need more of these essential nutrients than you did before you became pregnant, so this should be taken into consideration also for your healthy pregnancy.
If you wish to take supplements to go with your healthy diet, these are the 3 most important to take during pregnancy:
Calcium
Iron
Folic Acid
If you follow the above guidelines then you should have a fairly healthy pregnancy and have done all you can to ensure this. However, it is worth mentioning some things to avoid during your pregnancy. These are fairly obvious but worth stating anyway: Alchohol, recreational drugs, nicotine and caffeine. A lot of these have been found to have adverse effects on a baby's development in the womb - so don't take the risk!
